
Aquarium of the Americas
One of the top 5 aquariums in United States, the Aquarium of the Americas is located at New Orleans in Louisiana. The aquarium was opened in 1990 by Audubon Institute, which is also credited for running Audubon Zoo and Audubon Park.

As many as 10,000 creatures belonging to 530 aquatic species from different regions of North America and South America are exhibited at this aquarium. There are four different sections of the aquarium, each featuring animals belonging to assorted categories.

First is a long tunnel, named the Caribbean reef that features underwater wildlife in the form of sharks and clownfish. The Amazon features a selection of creatures such as piranhas, macaws and an anaconda from the world's largest river basin.
Mississippi River gallery is the third section that displays white alligator as the best part of the trip. The list also includes catfish and paddlefish. Finally, The Gulf of Mexico section is dedicated to sharks, stingrays and sea turtles brought form the gulf. With so much on offer you simply can't afford to miss the aquarium during your New Orleans travel.

Apart from those mentioned above, the aquarium offers some other striking features as well. The Penguin Colony houses African penguins and Rockhopper penguins. Adventure Island allows the visitors to feed cownose rays and stingrays. Frogs and sea otters are put on show at the second floor of the aquarium. And if you want to be surrounded by mystic sea creatures, you can explore a small community of seahorses and dragons in this aquarium.
