
Touring around Audubon Park New Orleans - Experience the Real Splendor of Nature
Audubon Park is situated in Uptown neighborhood in New Orleans. It is a city park that is located on a land that the city had bought in the year 1871. The park is surrounded by St. Charles Avenue, Mississippi, Loyola University and Tulane University. The park derives its name from a famous artist known as John James Audubon who started living there in 1821.
This used to be a plantation formerly. The park constitutes of picnic facilities and sports facilities along the bank of the River Mississippi. This portion is known as the Riverview Park. This portion is colloquially termed as the 'Fly'. A certain portion of the park consists of a par 3 golf course. In 1898, this facility was opened for the public. There is a zoo known as the Audubon Zoo featuring several animals including elephants, sea lions, leopards and many more.
There were a large number of oak trees in the park prior to the destruction caused by Katrina - the hurricane. This park was utilized as a helipad during the relief works post Katrina. The wildlife in this region has a stunning variety you will notice a large variety of species in the park such as orangutans, tigers, alligators, leopards, and sea lions.
Tennis and horse riding facilities are available for the visitors. Baseball and football fields are located inside the Riverview Park in case you wish to play here. Woldenberg Park covers 16 acres of land which is located between French Quarter and Audubon Aquarium. You can also take part in their donation program to help restore the beauty of the park.
