
Spend an Afternoon in Jackson Square New Orleans - A Fantastic Place to Kill Time
Jackson Square is a wonderful park located in French Quarter in New Orleans. This park has a lot of historical significance and in 1960 it was conferred the status of National Historic Landmark. The park was designed resembling the Place des Vosges in France. Throughout the 20th century this park was an assembling place for talented people from different walks of life. Art students, caricaturists, professionals all used to gather over here. This was the place for artists where they assembled and discussed ideas on art.
This has also become famous as a live music venue in New Orleans. Both professional and non professional musicians have played at this venue. The Pontalba Buildings are located on each side of the park. These are red brick buildings where you will find restaurants and shops in the ground floors. The Jax Brewery is also located near the park. This is one of the oldest and most popular beer joints in the city. The Cafe de Monde is also close by where you can treat yourselves to beignets and cafe au lit. A number of scenes in various movies have been shot at this location.
You can enjoy a stunning view of the Mississippi River along with other buildings like the, St. Louis Cathedral and Presbytere and Cabildo. Various artists display their paintings on the fence of this park. Some of the artists include Cath Wilson, Jack McCann and Lee Tucker. This is also a famous wedding venue in New Orleans. Events like Caroling and French Quarter Festival take place in Jackson Square.
