The National D-Day Museum, now known as the National World War II Museum is located in New Orleans's central business district. The museum particularly focuses on the contribution of the U.S to the victory in the 2nd World War and the Battle of Normandy. The museum opened to the public on June 2000.

The National D-Day Museum consists of a large lobby where several items including aircrafts are suspended from the ceiling. You can begin your museum tour from the top floor and come down to the ground floor. The top floor of the museum assesses the social, economic and political conditions which led to the 2nd world war. Later, you can see models of Normandy beaches with the relative positions of aircrafts and other amphibious vehicles. You can also see an electronic Pacific Ocean map which illustrates the Allied strategy of island hopping and nuclear attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima in 1945. The museum also has 2 auditoriums and a gift shop. Admission to the museum is $ 14 for adults and discounts are offered to children, veterans, senior citizens, students and military members and their families.
