Student Trip to New Orleans? Never Miss the National World War II Museum
National World War II Museum is a must visit for the students and other people touring New Orleans. It is situated in the Central Business District of the city of New Orleans. This museum is basically dedicated to the victory of American allies in World War II and the Battle of Normandy. In 2003, the US Congress conferred the status of America's National World War II Museum to this museum.
The museum has three types of exhibits - the online exhibit, the special exhibit and the permanent exhibit. The permanent exhibit is known as the Louisiana Memorial Pavilion that displays the tools that were used in the warfare. It includes the famous Higgins landing craft. Other exhibits include 20,000 boats, jeeps, tanks, C-47 and halftracks. These exhibits are divided into 4 sections named as D-Day Beaches, The Home Front, Planning for D-Day and D-Day Invasions in Pacific.
The Special Exhibit section focuses on the animals that were used in the World War II. Dogs, horses, mules and pigeons were used frequently during the warfare. The section showcases such animals and their mannequins dressed in the war gear. Equipment like saddle and harnesses are also present. The section elaborates on the specific role played by each of the animals. There is also a gallery inside the museum showcasing portraits from the wars.
The museum remains open from 9-5 during the weekdays. Apart form seeing the exhibits, you can also watch the movies Price for Peace and D-Day Remembered in the Malcolm Forbes Theater. The admission fee for adults for both museum and theater is $23 and for children it is $12.
