
An Overview on New Orleans Jazz Fest: History, Music Schedule and Tickets
New Orleans Jazz Fest is one of the most significant events that have a tremendous cultural significance and huge appeal. It is one of the most celebrated events that attracts huge crowd every year. The first festival was held in 1970 and George Wein was called in to design and develop a unique festival for New Orleans. The festival was overseen by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation- a nonprofit organization.
The first New Orleans Jazz Fest featured programs from several great artistes including Pete Fountain, The Meters, Clifton Chenier, Mardi Gras Indians Fats Domino, Al Hirt, Clifton Chenier, Fats Domino, the Olympia Brass Band, the Preservation Hall Band and many others.
New Orleans Jazz Fest was a great artistic success. The second year saw more participation from big artistes and renowned musicians. In 1972, the festival was held at the infield of the Fair Grounds Race Course. In the next five years, the Jazz Fest has grown rapidly. In its 5th year in 1975, the festival was held for five days with three days of the Louisiana Heritage Fair.
