National World War II Museum

Located in the Central Business District of New Orleans in Louisiana, the National World War II Museum was previously known as National D-day Museum. The United States Congress declared it as the America's National World War II Museum in the year 2003. The museum has been designed to celebrate the existence of the country among the winners of World War II. It was in June6, 2000 that the museum was opened for the public and since then it has become an important part of New Orleans travel.

The museum is famous for suspended aircrafts and other things from the ceilings of the building. The building has seven levels, with each one of them consisting of a different view of the war. The model of the Normandy beaches which were important role-players in the war is among the highlights of this museum. An electronic map of the Pacific Ocean has also been installed to describe the events like island hopping and aerial attacks at various sites. One can also view educational videos in the auditoriums and shop from a gift store available inside the museum.

The museum has recently been given the rank of one of the Best Places to Learn U.S. Military History by USA Today. Tours, workshops, lecture series and many other activities are conducted to help the children learn about history. Higgins Boats which played an important role in D-day operations were designed in New Orleans and hence, the museum was thought to be constructed in the city.
