New Orleans Travel Tips

Riverwalk Marketplace

One of the highlights of New Orleans travel is the existence of a number of shopping malls and Riverwalk Marketplace is one of them. It is located in the city's Central Business District and is also close to River Mississippi. Until 1980s the area was used extensively for shipping. However, some of the lesser used wharfs like those located in Poydras and Julia Streets were pulled down and the land was used to conduct the World Fair in 1984. After the fair the land was used for the construction of Riverwalk Marketplace.

Another interesting event occurred in 1996, when Bright Field the massive cargo vessel, smashed with the building of Riverwalk. Though nobody died, a huge loss was incurred by the mall due to the destruction of many shops. Interestingly the vessel was not removed from the site for nearly a month and it led to an increase in the site's popularity for tourists. Destruction was also caused to the marketplace by Hurricane Katrina in the year 2005. However, the mall was reopened in the year 2006 with reduction in the operation hours.

The shopping mall accommodates a variety of shops and stores. Aldo Shoes, Amazing Pictures, Bermuda Bay, Chico's, Del Sol, Fancy Ladies, Gap Kids, Local Charm, Mardi Gras, Winter Blues and many other prestigious stores have been opened in the mall over these years. Apart from them, a number of dining and entertainment options can also be found at this shopping mall.

The mall is also known for conducting a number of events throughout the year. The New Orleans travel deals must include Riverwalk Marketplace in the list, if you would like to have a unique shopping experience on the trip.
