
Xavier University of New Orleans
The Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) New Orleans is a historically black university and is run under the Roman Catholic doctrines. It was started by a nun by the name Saint Katherine Drexel from the congregation of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. It was initially a coeducational secondary institution and in 1925 it became a university when the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences was formed.

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) which consists of 18 academic departments which include Biology, business, Art, Computer Science, Communication, History, Chemistry and many others. Graduate programs within this college include Graduate Programs in Education and Institute for Black Catholic Studies.

Additional information
The admission level as the university has tremendously increased in the recent years. Students' admission by the year 2005 had reached 4,100 with most of these being out of the state students. Non-academic activities include athletics and basketball. According to New Orleans hotel reviews, hotels and apartments around the university have continued to have a large number of students as their clients.
